I recently participated in the Sewists/Yarnies V. Papercrafters Swap and I was inspired to make an altered book for my partner, browndog. The basis of the whole book were a few excerpts from poems with nature imagery. The following image is the back cover of the book with a quote I like from Oscar Wilde.

The original book was a children's board book from the dollar store and I made nine layouts with pages torn from a French story book for background paper. My favorite layout was one of the easiest to create. I just punched out several butterflies from blue paper and glued them down like a flock (?) of fluttering butterflies flitting across the page.

Another of my favorites is a layout representing night time. I tried a new technique: packing tape transfer on the eyes, and I think it turned out well.

I'm pretty proud of my spooky tree. I free-handed the bare branches in pencil and then went over it in Sharpie. The owls were stamped on kraft paper and after I took the pic, I later put a little red glitter on the eyes to go with the poem.

With all of these embellishments, my book wouldn't sit flat, but that's normal for me. I just love my textures!

I learned some new techniques while crafting this and I had to wrap my head around embellishing an idea and not photos. Since I am primarily a scrapbooker, this was a new approach for me! I worked hard on this project and was pretty proud of the finished result!

My Wists.

This is really awesome!! I love the transfer of the eyes, they turned out really cool. After my swaps, I think I may have to give this a try. I love the french pages... been looking for something like that for awhile lol

That book is lovely. Smiley I think I like the owl page best, but I love the texture created by the butterflies, too. And the cover. Okay, so maybe I like them all equally, heh.
