ACTIVE - "Beyond The Square" Motifs CAL

Is anyone else interested in joining me in making all (or some!) of the motifs from Beyond The Square?

Here it is on Amazon.ca, and on Amazon.com.

I was thinking I'd go through the book rather methodically, but I don't see why everyone would have to. (ETA: We've started! Details in the second post of this thread.)

If people are interested, then I think we should "officially" start in the new year, with a new motif every couple of days.  However, I don't see any reason why people couldn't post whichever one they've recently made in any order (especially if you're not planning on making all of them!

I'm suggesting this now in case anyone wanted to go out and buy the book, or ask for it for Christmas, or some such.

Since I'm doing this only quasi-formally, I'm going to reserve the next post so that I can list the motifs made and link to the specific posts for easy reference.


Anyhow, if you're interested, let me know!

I am definately interested. I've got a handful of motif books, but this one is definately my fav, and one I go back to a lot. This week I've been making a lot of #46 for ornaments.

Bummer...I have that book and have been meaning to do this as well but have lacked the focus...sadly it is in my mom's attic and I am in Singapore for another few months.  When my copy and I are re-united I will try to pick up where you are at at that point.

Once I get my Christmas presents all crocheted up (I'm almost done!) and I acquire a copy of that book, I'm definitely going to jump back to this thread.

I need some motivation to make another stashbuster, this time with hexagons (which I've never done before).

Question:  does the book/patterns allow for different yarn weights?  If I wanted to make this in a finer thread than worsted would that work?  I do have an idea in mind if that is the case...which I'm guessing is going to be possible and then I will be (ahem!)...HookeD!!

I don't have the book with me right now, but I don't recall it every suggesting a yarn weight.  I think a lot of the motifs would look really great in thread!

In fact, the more I think about it... I made a couple of them in worsted weight and I thought they were too heavy in places and had the feeling that thread might have been better... or at least a finer yarn.

Anyone else know?
