I'm new to crocheting and I've seen a granny square Mario rug on here and I thought it was awesome.  My question is is there a way to take a picture and make it into squares so I can just count them out and make a blanket?  I'm sorry if it's vague...thank you so much.

depending on the size of the image i use either mspaint or excel
small images, paste into paint, zoom right in, then select show grid and that gives you all you pixel/squares
bigger pics i use excel and use the lines that divide the cells and it works out the same
