Not swearing at the machine? Not doing it right.

I've been knitting for a while but not much past knit and purl. For my first real project I want to make some socks!
I was wondering what you all consider easier to start with for socks, circular or double pointed needles?

I learned how to knit socks on dpn's. Circular's do make the knitting go faster when you do the 2 at a time method though, but it can get confusing for your first time.

dpn's all the way. Then again, I learned on dpn's and not circulars, so there's prejudice.

I did my first pair of socks with dpns, but learned how to do small circumference knitting on 2 circulars shortly after and now that's the method I prefer.

You could practice which method you like with other small diameter pieces like the top of the hat, or a pair of mittens if you wanted.

Ok! dpn's it is! I had to give myself a knitting refresher course when I read the pattern for a pair of simple socks, I hope it will turn out fine!

Reject only your ignorance, and you may survive.

I use the magic loop method and can't wrap my head around dpns. So one circular is my best friend.

The most common problem with knitting socks on dpn's is the second sock syndrome. You'll finish your first sock but never get around to making the second one. Hopefully you won't fall into that trap. But if you do just know you're not the first knitter and you certainly won't be the last one to have developed this syndrome.

lol, dawn0684 I can imagine! I've already gotten about halfway through and had to frog it cuz I was knitting too tight on the needles and it was laddering up the sides. I think I'm gonna have to put these on the back burner till I get all my xmas presents done with!
