Thanks to several postings on Craftster, we were inspired  Shocked

We found the perfect sheets...

and created the perfect dress

For school, she has to wear a jacket or something over it because of the dress code.  This is what she wore for the first day of school this year.  First person she saw was her principal who just looked at her and shook his head.  After all of our run-ins with him the year before, he has now gotten used to her.  The most frequent comment she gets from the guys is "Hey, I used to have (still have!) sheets just like that!"

Thanks.  Cheesy

She wanted it to be very "swirly" so we put large godets at each seam.  We were winging it as far as a pattern goes.  Ended up with a very uneven hem.  I wanted to finish it but she liked the look of the ragged hem line.

I basically made it up as I went along.  I used ideas from different people here on Craftster as our inspiration.

I measured bust, waist & hips.  Figured out how many panels I wanted and divided.
I wanted it to fit tight around the top and flare at the bottom.  I sewed the panels together from the bust to the hips inserting a zipper between panels on the side.  Since she wanted a VERY swishy skirt, I then inserted large godets in every space between panels.  Now, my plan was to finish off the hem but she liked the way it looked with the ragged hem.

It did not go perfectly as planned.  I did have to make adjustments around the top for a better fit.  Next time I might plan for straps of some kind.
