I did an awesome private swap with RhymeswOrange recently. She sent me a box of fiber and a drop spindle along with a great book so I could learn to spin. My first efforts were not so great, but I think I'm beginning to get the hang of it the second time around. Here is my first *successful* attempt at spinning. Not too bad I guess, certainly not as lovely as some things I have seen here, but I'm proud of it. Smiley The pic doesn't look quite as pretty as the real thing, but it is close. This is a lovely shade of bubblegum/cotton candy pink. I am thinking a pair of mittens for my little girl.

Looks better than my second attempt!
Congratulations.

I paid money to learn to spin.
I paid to take a couple of classes. My results ranged from being over-twisted to not-twisted enough. And I'm not interested in learning how to get better.

So I guess I DID learn something - that using a drop spindle is not for me.
At least I no longer wondder what it would be like.

I am more than happy to buy yarn which is already made.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone, and special thanks to RhymeswOrange for getting me started on my latest hobby! I am enjoying this so much I am giving some thought to making a spinning wheel, though admittedly there is something nice about using a drop spindle too.... Well, back to my spinning, I'll post more soon! Cheesy
