Confusing!
«

I'm going to make a Dark Mark shirt for a friend of mine sometime soon... Black shirt, green and silver paint. I'm using the well-known movie image of the Mark, because I know that Rowling approves.
But... It gets so confusing!!
I fail to see which parts will stay dark, and which parts will be coloured. Iek! I did a Glee stencil before, but letters are so simple. This is really tricky, and every time I have figured it out, one look at the picture is enough to confuse me again. How do you do it? I don't want to loose track when I am actually cutting?

if i were you, i would eliminate the outline in your stencil, letting the black background become the outline also. (that means you should even ignore the thin white line in my image below).
apart from that, you
could cut out holes of all the green areas as one stencil for green
and
cut out holes of all the other white areas as another stencil for silver
. unless that's not authentic. i'm only a moderate fan so i am not up on all the exactitudes of the potterverse.

are you using the freezer paper method? because two colors can get complicated. but i do like the idea of making the black the outlines. looks wicked cool. i might steal that idea.
if youre thinking of doing green outlines on the shirt. more simple, the best way to remember is that everything thats black will then be green, and everything thats white would be black
kinda like this:

Mmm, both are really cool! I was going to do it in green only, but my sister said that the skull should be silvery... I'm not sure yet. I will depend on the paint that I can get.
I'm Belgian, so freezer paper is no option for me. I fail to find it here... I use sticky paper, originally used for sand art. Yeah, I know, sounds weird :p. This paper doesn't need to be ironed on. When I did the Glee stencil, I was able to cut out the insides of the e, and stick them back on later. Easy!

Yeah, usually when you do a multiple color stencil, you need to have a stencil for each color you're going to use. So, since you're using green and silver paint, you'll need two stencils. I found that the easiest way for me to do this is to cut my two stencil papers to the same size (both should be slightly smaller than your master copy) and on my master copy mark which space will be which color (S for the silver spaces, and G for the green spaces). Lay your first stencil paper over the master copy and outline the corners of the stencil paper on the master copy so that you can line up your second stencil over the master copy in exactly the same place. Trace only the areas you're going to be cutting out in your stencil for the one color that stencil will be used for.
When working on the t-shirt, use a light colored pencil to outline the corners of your first stencil's placement that way, when you take off the first stencil, you'll be able to easily line up your second stencil into the correct place. I usually heat set my first color of paint with an iron (after it's completely dried) before placing the second stencil on so that the paint doesn't get picked up by the stickiness of the second stencil.
I really like the color scheme that nataluna worked out... the Dark Mark is typically black and white because it is technically an outlined tattoo, so you could make your own color scheme to go with your liking as well ^_^
I hope this helped you out a bit with the "how to" of making a multiple color stencil!

Thank you all for your nice reactions and lots of help. I'm sure this will all come in handy once my stencilling gets *ahum* better. I tried my best, and I want to share the result. I only made a picture of the shirt with the other gift, a Luna scarf. Anyway, still better than nothing. I did go for the one-coloured stencil and that was already hard enough. I'm not so happy with the result... Something is off, but I can't put my finger on it... I just coloured the inner bit of the snake, and I really wanted to the outline as well. Ah well, it was a great way to learn more!
The stencil;
