I was so inspired by all the button trees on Craftster that I decided to make one for my mom. When my grandmother passed a few years ago, my mom inherited her antique button collection (about 5 sugar cookie tins full of antique buttons!) My mom doesn't craft as much as she used to, so she gave me ALL the buttons! I know my mom always loved her mom's button collection, I thought this would be a good way to display some of them.

And a close up of the buttons, because they are so pretty!

Thanks for looking!

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! And for all of you thinking about making a button tree, you should! It only took me a couple of evenings of tv to stitch it up during (5 hours tops).

I love this tree! It looked like an intricate embroidery in the thumbnail pic, I was suprised to see it was buttons. That's such a perfect way to show them off.

I wish my residents at my retirement home had the dexdarity to make these. I may switch it up and paint the trunks on and have them glue the buttons on instead! I think they would love this idea~

Now to put the word out to the families that we NEED buttons! lol

Thanks for a great idea~

So pretty! I was *just* trying to think of ideas for the small button collection I just inherited (a large mason jar full... only WISH I had 5 cookie tins!) and this is a great idea. I think a 4 set for each season would be perfect for this. This one looks very fall-ish, could use white buttons for winter, green and floral ones for spring and maybe a brighter green and fruit colored one for summer. I wish I had enough buttons to do my own button trees. *sigh*

I recognize some of those! I have my grandma's button collection from when she was making rag-rugs. Man, I have maybe 8 gallon ziplock bags full. This would be a good way to used them up if I had the patience for sewing buttons!

Very pretty - I can see why it was in the hot new projects!

All you nice Craftster people always brighten my day, thank you!

Yarn or Fabric- jump aboard! I'm about to start my second tree- a winter one with white, silver and clear glass buttons. Stay tuned!

And pugwash- sewing buttons actually wasn't half as bad as I thought it was going to be, especially since the fabric was in the hoop when I sewed them on so it was nice and taut- very easy to work on. Give it a try! That's pretty awesome that we have some of the same buttons! I think most in my grandmas collection were from the early to mid 1900's.

I am definitely going to jump on board - definitely!  I think I am going to need a ton of green buttons for one that I have in mind... .I'll have to check Snobby Lobby to see if they have a pack of green buttons.... or maybe I should spend an afternoon sorting the buttons I have already lol.

The winter one sounds wonderful!
