Help create the props, sets and costumes for Overtone Industries' upcoming production, Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands directed by O-Lan Jones, a site-specific contemporary opera, taking place in Culver City in July 2010. In a series of free public workshops, donated recyclable materials will be transformed into sets and costumes through community participation. Looking for crafters, artists, knitters++ All levels from professionals to beginners are welcome.
The goal is to make all props, sets and costumes from recycled materials. Although the organizers are looking for all level of crafty types, they have a particular need for anyone with basic knitting/crochet skills to knit plastic bag fabric which will be made into costumes. This could be done at home!!
Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands takes the audience on a journey with working class Tom and aristocratic Sue, who have lost their identities. The couple reclaims their story by means of a device that allows them to inhabit the "lands" that hold the pivotal experiences of their lives embodied in songs, dances, pledges of allegiance, and rituals indigenous to those turning points.
