I make my kids costumes every year and this year my son wanted to be a Star Wars Tusken Raider.

The robe was really easy and the entire costume cost me $9 with lots of fabric left over.  I ended up forming the mask out of paper mache (spelling?).  We blew up a large balloon and covered it with paper mache even got the newspaper for free.

We spray painted all the pieces for the mask with silver spray paint ($3)  The eye pieces are actually pvc fittings (my husband owns an irrigation company, so they were free in the garage), the spikes in the head are actually drinking straws that I had on hand.  I had never done paper mache before so it was the most difficult part.  It took 2 days to dry before we could decorate the mask.

Took me about 5 hours to make it (not including down time/drying).  He loved it and won a costume contest.

on to the photos:

This is so awesome! I love it! I'm making a stack of costumes for my kid for his Star Wars party, they're just toddlers so this might be too scary for them but I'm so bookmarking this as inspiration for when he's older!

you did so well!
