Once upon a time when I was brand new to craftster (okay well... March) I was flipping through all the wonderful quilty and non quilty creations and I stumbled upon a mario pixel quilt, the husband who was playing video games behind me, went "awesome!" hence the birth of our first quilt together! And I did make him help!

So technically I guess its not a quilt...because its not quilted, but its one of the biggest projects I have tackled to date and saying I made a "blanket" is just not as fulfilling

I really really wanted to put a mario fabric on the back, but I couldn't find anything in enough quantity or without paying an arm and a leg for junk. I also fell in love with a space invaders print on spoonflower, but it was more than I wanted to spend for something I might easily mess up  Sad I eventually fell for this skull and crossbones print which my sister decided looked like a kill screen...hence the doom!

and an in-progress pic with my lovely kitty of after I got all the blocks put together for the middle

It has been living on our bed since I finished it (in July) but I only just took it outside to get pictures whoops! Husband likes it and has already requested a megaman one (or was it a final fantasy?) I see several more pixel quilts in my future...maybe one day they will actually be "quilts"

Thanks for looking!

I want it I want it I want it!!  Love every inch of it, such great work!

At one point early in 2010 I was going to redo our bedroom in Mario stuff...but after seeing how much patience and skill went into making these pixel quilts, I trashed that idea.  I'm in awe of you, seriously!

Thanks!
The squares for the mushroom were 5 inch squares. There's a really cute princess peach one I want to do, but I would have to do it in 1.5 inch squares and THAT is daunting!!
BethieB this is my first big quilt, you could totally do this. The biggest thing is to keep all the little squares organized! I used a paperclips and letter cards, with many many references to my marked up picture.

I found a pic on the internet and laid out graph lines in paint (which was the reccomendation from someone else on here who made the same design)

there he is!
Absolutely feel free to snag him
To organize I labeled a-b-c along the top and kept everything in sets by that designation
