I was Hedwig from the musical/movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch. For those of you who haven't seen it- she's a transgendered rock star. I made my entire costume completely from scratch. Sorry i dont have better close ups- these were taken at a party and the only photos i have. Enjoy!

here's the real Hedwig:

what i started with:

i had 6 of those hair extensions to make the wig. The black shirt was used to make the base part of the microphone (which is actually a purse). The cup was also used to form the base of the mic. The silver skirt was used to make the top of the microphone and the bandanna/ necklace. zebra print was used to make the pants. White ribbon/ black leather strip and studs were used to make the belt, yellow shirt was used to make the shirt, and the black lace gloves i bought and added the lace trim to them. All in all this costume cost less then $20.

the whole shebang:

shirt close up ( I stenciled this shirt after reconstructing the fit)

Thank you for not thinking Hedwig automatically meant owl!  Good job on the costume!

My candle burns at both ends, it will not last the night.  But oh, my friends, and oh, my foes, it gives a lovely light.

This is such a great costume! I was totally in love with that movie in high school. Although, for years I kept calling it "Hedwig and the Angry Itch".

But why is the rum gone?

This is one of my favorite movies. You did a wonderful job on the costume.

They'll say just let her crash and burn she'll learn
The attention just encourages her

Rock on!

A crafter and kitcheneer from Manila documents her exploits, experiments, and explosions.

I love it!!  My husband and I are HUGE Hedwig fans.  We wanted to dress him up as Hedwig this year but didn't have much reason being as our only plans were to take the kids trick or treating.  You look great!

to know about handmade, and not to support handmade, is not to know.

I've never so much as heard of the movie, but you make me want to find it. NOW. Great job!
