I made this piece of wall art for littlebluegirl, my partner for the Buy Nothing Swap. What a great way to de-stash some buttons and felt! The project took a little longer than I had expected (all those tiny stitches!) but I think the result was worth it!  Smiley

The felt is a mix of acrylic, wool/acrylic blend and all wool felt, the colors especially chosen to match my partner's preferences of course. Turns out I have a ton of different shades of blue and purple, I didn't even use them all in the end!

The backing is simple black broadcloth. The frame also comes from my stash, I painted it black to match the backing. A close up of the circles and buttons:

I hope you like! C/C always welcome!  Wink

I love it! Such simple materials can make the greatest pieces. I also like the way it's framed but the frame blends right in. Well done!

Sure! Unfortunately I don't have any progress pics, but I'll try to explain. I didn't really have a plan of exactly what the piece would look like when I started, I just sort of winged it!

I started with cutting the smallest circle, laid it on top of another color of felt and cut the second circle about 5 mm (what do you call that, like 3/16"?) from the edge of the first. As you can see the sizes vary, and some circles have 4 different colors, some 3 or 2, and some are just one color.
I arranged the circles on my fabric and moved them around a bit, and then started sewing the different colors in the circles together, one circle at a time (using whip stitch/fell stitch). That way I could keep repositioning things if I wanted. I also sewed buttons on some of them. Only when all the circles were done did I start to attach them to the backing. I used a tiny bit of glue to keep all the circles in place while I sewed them on.

Does that make sense? If you like the style I def. recommend making one yourself, it's very meditative to sew all those little circles! Great for a couple of evenings in front of the TV. Smiley

I thought the little thumbnail on the main page looked familiar!  This lovely piece is hanging over my computer.  The colours are perfect!
