Candy Corn Pudding - Quick Halloween Treat!

We had a few friends stop by for dinner tonight on just a moment's notice.  Since I didn't have a menu planned, I had to whip up a quick dessert.  We were getting the kiddos together in their Halloween costumes, so I thought this was appropriate, fun and ridiculously easy for me (always a bonus!).

I simply took plain vanilla instant pudding and mixed it with food coloring.  I used classic yellow food coloring gel for one layer.  I used neon orange food coloring gel, with just a couple drops of classic red to darken it a bit, in the other layer.

Mixed it thoroughly and then used freezer bags with the corners snipped as piping bags.  The top layer is Cool Whip (also piped)!

Randomly scattered some colored gum balls that were left over from baby.sweets4ever's birthday party and my dessert setting was complete!

And isn't it crazy that a plastic bag and a glass (Dollar Tree glasses we used at our wedding reception, btw!) can make something so simple look fancy?  I love it.

They are so good! I am all about saving money, but you gotta buy name brand nilla wafers...the house brand sucks.

PS, I showed my mom and she said it was really pretty! And you know she's not impressed by much in the world of craft

It was sooo yummy. I used whipped cream instead of cool whip and sprinkled a bit of cinnamon on the top (which really made it delicious). My family and I loved every spoonful! Thanks for the idea

I think this came out great! We are candy corn addicts around here, and cannot wait for the season's first "harvest" of them. I'm going to try this idea, and add some whipped marshmellow (comes in a jar) to see if the flavor becomes more candy corn-ish.

SpiceBarn makes Cotton Candy flavored 'extract' that reminds me of candy corn flavor, for some reason. Hmmm...maybe for Thanksgiving do an Indian Candy Corn version (use 'chocolate' pudding on the bottom, lol). Thanks for the inspiration, I have got to try this!

Unreal. How delicious does this look? I actually am not the biggest fan of actual candy corn, but this looks delicious (and I'm a sucker for candy corn-inspired things)! And just in time - I've been trying to find some Halloween-inspired food ideas! I'm sure mine won't turn out as gorgeous as yours, and I do think I'll try cinnamon like the lady who posted in the comments, but I'm excited!

Yum I made it today! For breakfast  We are a little ridiculous sometimes.

I made mine with the Pumpkin Spice pudding (Great minds must think alike Tyger :3), which wasn't quite orange but it was delicious. I apologize for the bleh picture. I only have my camera phone.
