My son is being Frodo for Halloween and needs to wear his costume to school to do a tie-in book report presentation on The Fellowship of the Ring. I wanted to make sure he could walk in his Hobbit Feet and they weren't terrible tripping hazards. Here is what I came up with: The Hobbit Sneaker Smiley What do you think of my crazy creation?

here is what I started with. They are are called Funny Slipper Feet and I got them online for about $10 then cut them up, painted them, attached to Van-style slip on sneakers & wigged them. I'll post the whole costume when done. I also sewed a cloak for him Smiley

Here are some WIP and action shots... I still had one finished when i took pix

I felt like Jame Gumb - Dr Frankenstein - Hellraiser at this stage, looking very creepy about now lol The zip ties are holding things together while the glue dries.

Fantastic! I can't believe you found feet shoes to start with though. I thought maybe you had to sculpt them, and then make a mold and then cast them from latex! Aren'y you glad you didn't have to do all that? Shocked

thanks for all the great comments everyone! props to the sculptor of the orig. silly feet slippers - a little paint really brought them to life, right? I used the same techniques and supplies I use on my fairy sculptures. They were ALOT of fun to make.

This is one of those projects that really came out exactly as I envisioned so I am very happy with them and so is my son. Tomorrow is the big day at his school, I think the kids are going to have a blast!!

that's funny Smiley The sad thing is my son will probably outgrow these in a few weeks and they are too small for me! They are a boys 5 (so about a ladies 7 in US sizes) If they were a 6 I could probably get them on. DH thought it would be great fun for me to wear while grocery shopping lol This kind of takes the Painted Vans thing to another level lol

Thanks!

They look so much larger in the pictures, like bigger than clown feet. I was wondering how they wern't tripping hazards as giants feet.. they turned out a good size and look awesome!

The original feet appear to be silicone...what kind of adhesive did you use that would adhere to that material ?

i used a combination of sewing and glueing. i used Fabri-tac. My son wore them all day at school (until kickball lol) they held up great. I will reinforce with 2-part epoxy if needed, which i had intended to use from the start but was being lazy. I love Fabri-tac and use it alot in my fairy making so i had faith in it's ability to work on this project.

he will wear them again for trick or treating this weekend.
