stripey sweater

Thought I'd post the sweater I just finished.  For me, it's hard to find plainer sweater patterns--I like boxy sweaters, not girlie ones, so I was happy to find this one.  I first saw the design here:

and then ended up ordering a back issue of Interweave.  It's fun to knit this sweater because you do the whole thing in the round, so there is very little finishing at the end!

I love knitting in the round.  I hate finishing, so knitting in the round is the way to go for me.  I'd rather cut a steek than sew a seam anytime.

Thanks, hijole!  Yeah, I'm with you on knitting in the round.  For this one, you knit the body in the round, and then the arms in the round, and then connect them all!  So, the only real sewing of seams is underarm seams, which don't have to be all that neat as far as I'm conerned!    It's nice to finish and not have to sew all the pieces together--that is too much!

Cute!  Hey if you like knitting in the round and hate finishing, see if you can find Barbara Walker's "Knitting from the Top" in your local library.  Or buy a copy, you won't regret it :)  Sweaters knitted from the top down have almost no finishing at all, not even underarm seams!  And you can try them on as you go. That's my kind of knitting. And she shows you how to design your own sweater -- girlish, boyish, or whatever :)

I think you'll love it. Not only does she cover sweaters in all their variety, but also hats, skirts, and even pants!  If you can't find it locally, you can get it from schoolhouse press:
