I recently shipped a large flat rate box and it was returned to me because "the flaps didn't touch" and therefore it didn't "fit" into the box and qualify for the flat rate.

I just wanted everyone to be aware that maybe the post office is being a bit of a hardass about this sort of thing, coming up on the holiday season.

whosa?? whats THAT about??  Shocked

weird!! I mean if you used colored tape they would never see the flaps not touching..seems like such an odd rule..

so did you have to repack it??

I've been told before that the box has to close properly...this is from the usps website:

Contents must reasonably fit within the Priority Mail packaging
which I suppose is open to interpretation. That stinks that they didn't tell you that when you paid for it!

The worst part ws that it was for the 13 days Halloween swap and my partner hasn't gotten anything yet.  Even though I shipped it originally in enough time.  by the time it came back and i resent, its ridiculous.

I am envious of your ability to HAVE flat rate boxes - lol. But I'm sorry they seem to be so anal about packing them Sad

We don't have them in Canada - the closest thing is boxes you can buy from Canada Post on ebay to ship ONLY ebay items in (you have to print out the label from ebay).

Yeah, they've become sticklers on this.  Also, the flat rate envelopes are just for sending documents as that recently came up in a bulletin.  I think sometimes it depends on the person handling your package as well.

Please send packages with postage stamps when you can!
I am interested in Halloween Rinchies (round inchies) to make bottle cap magnets.
