Well, I got married last May and I made my wedding dress! I often cut a few corners when I sew (ba ha ha), but this time I vowed to do all the extra shenanigans mock-up, finishing seams, hand sewing the hem, everything. I also vowed not to procrastinate too much. And it took awhile, but despite my entire family's predictions, I finished it a full week and a half ahead of time! Woowoo!

Here is a picture of the whole thing, it's a sleeveless princess-seamed bodice with lace overlay on the lower half and a ruffled overlay over the boob area. The skirt is a full circle.

I made it out of silk taffeta and a lovely blue-green lace that has silver threads running through it. My cat is highly intrigued.

Here are some pics of the construction:

The bodice, all set to go. I wanted the lace to extend over the top of the skirt a bit, so that's why it's sticking up.

On the right is my first french seam! Totally not as hard as I thought it would be. I'm still proud of how neat everything looks, even though I ended up putting lining over all of this. It's okay, I still know it's there.  Wink

I don't have any closeups of the hem, but I sewed in 6 yards of horsehair braid to give it a bit of body without having to wear a petticoat underneath.

Yeah hem! Shoes are from DSW.

Up close view of the bodice. I wish I could say this was how I said my vows.

And the back, check out my lining-up-invisible-zipper skills! And my forgetting-to-put-in-a-hook-eye-on-top skills.

Full shot, playing croquet, with my new husband.  Grin

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, I wish I would've tweaked it more to eliminate the wrinkles on the back of the bodice and tacked down the lace so it wouldn't flip up occasionally. But, I felt super awesome wearing it and it stayed up all day without slipping down! That's a total win in my book.

Your dress looks so beautiful on you. Congratulations on your marriage and for showing your family what's what by finishing your dress ahead of schedule. Cheesy I'll have to remember the horsehair braid for the hem the next time I want to make a circle skirt and not need a petticoat. I don't like the idea of hand-sewing six yards of it, but we'll see.
