Your post inspired me to make a second costume with a hat similar to yours! I found some black faux fur so I made a Grizzly hat and tail instead of a lion. Unfortunately I just registered so I can't post a picture on here, but below is a link to my blog post with the pictures.

Might I inquire in which establishment you happened to acquire that fanciful furry fabric?

I too would like to know where to get such fabric (in not so sophisticated british accent)

For 2"+, long pile fur I've found:
http://www.crscraft.com/products/vProduct1.asp?pid=Fur&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&V2=10&V3=0&V4=0&T2=Style&T3=&T4=&cat=bear+supplies%E2%8A%82%3DFabrics&sub=&class=&searchOffset=x
and
http://www.imstuffedfur.com/

These places are quite pricey, $15 to $25+ a yard/58"/60" wide.
Still, I'd love to make a fierce lion cap.

If anyone has a resource for inexpensive long pile fur, please do tell ^_^
