Here are my first attempts at embroidery. The first was the Serenity patch... as in Firefly... are ya with me?  Smiley It's two layers of felt and I did a horrible rendition of satin stitch on it.

Moving on, I made this pillow. I found the picture online, but after 10 minutes of googling I can't find it again. I wasn't happy after I sewed the orange stripe in, but it was too small otherwise. Whatcha gonna do? Undecided

My favorite has been this squirrel one. I pattern is from here http://zuill.us/andreablog/2009/12/29/january-2010s-embroidery-pattern/. There's a lot of cute pattern there. It's on a light denim material, had to be dark because I wanted the squirrels to be white. It's a christmas gift for my grandma, there's albino squirrels where we live.

All in all, i'm really liking embroidery. It's more instant gratification that knitting, and it's a bit like drawing on fabric. But you all already knew that didn't you. Wink

How awesomely ambitious of you to try satin stitch first. i am in love with the Serenity patch. although, i too like the squirrels best. they look great on the dark fabric. Your Grandmother will love it.

Yes, it is like drawing, except on fabric I can actually do it! Why is it so much harder on paper?

I love those squirrels! Do you happen to live in N.C.? I have visited Brevard, NC and have seen white squirrels there...don't know if they're technically albino...still love it though!

I dig the Firefly reference, but I actually really like the hot air balloon the best. The mechanical line details are excellent.

I liked working on that one, the picture had a lot of detail and every time I thought I was done I would think, "well, maybe just a little bit more..."
