Hi

I've done a few searches on Craftster and I can't find festoon blinds anywhere, so I'm wondering if there's a different name for them that I don't know!

I apologise if there is and I've missed a whole raft of how-tos! - but I'm looking for a simple tutorial to make this sort of blind, hopefully with pictures and not too wordy because I did find one online and I couldn't follow it at all Sad

Can anyone help? - or tell me if there's a different name for this type fo blind/curtain?

Thank you!!  Cheesy

xx

Um it looks like Several Plain Column of White Fabric that is folded and sewed at the sides... Lets say each wave is like 5 inches, you fold the sides into 2 inch and sew them up, and this is repeated till the end. Then you place that black fabric at the end with the lace and you are done. (Um, that's my view but not so sure if there are other details.)
Its similar to folded paper chinese fan...

~Hope it helped Smiley

They are known in the UK as Austrian blinds. Here's a tutorial I've found for you...

Thank you, I've seen that website, but Austrian blinds are different from festoon blinds in that for Austrian blinds, all the gathering is at the bottom of the blind, whereas with festoon, the gathering is up the whole length of the blind.

I'm not wanting to copy the photo exactly, it was just a good example to show the type of ruffling I want to acheive. Mainly I'm wondering about the different ruffle techniques and how to calculate how much fabric I need.

Maybe festoon blinds are a British thing!

I found this online ... http://www.prettyfrills.co.uk/Information/Festoon-Blinds-explained.html   it is a bit involved, but I think that has more to do with the ruching of the fabric in the columns, than in the final outcome. I hope this helps.

Actually, what you are showing are Austrian blinds or shades; the pleating goes the whole way up. They have been around a lot longer than the festoon blinds. To make the pleating you do basting stitches  and pull the thread making sure you have a knot at the bottom to pull the fabric up. According to The Encyclopedia of Window Fashions: 1000 Decorating Ideas for Windows, Bedding, and Accessories by Charels T. Randal there are similar window treatments called "cloud shades" and "balloon shades." I'm not sure if these are what you are looking for or if you preffer the austrian blinds.
