Recently the wife of one of the blokes involved in my rollerderby league gave birth

Naturally, derby-themed baby gifts are in order.

I've never made booties before, but I found a pattern for artistic skates, and modified them to better resemble derby skates. These booties are black, like Reidells, and have a rolled collar. And red wheels, coz red goes faster. I had to create the toestops from scratch.

Next time I make some, I plan to add the Reidell stripes and an ankle strap. And if I want to get REALLY fancy, plates as well.

The best thing?

It was twins!!

These are SO cool! Great job inventing the toe stops... would love to see pics of the skates modeled by their recipient!

I hope they look beyond adorable!! I also hope that their mum & dad provide me with a picture of them wearing their roller booties. Cheesy

Last week we had a derby function, and the bebehs were brought along to meet the entire league. I only had one of the booties completed then, but everyone who saw that one solitary skate pretty much died of cute.

As did I during making them. Booties are kinda addictive.

those are so cute! I love booties that look like real shoes for grown ups. Smiley
As soon as I saw them I wondered if they were for roller derby.
I also love the comment about the red wheels. Grew up going skating every week in high school and part of middle school and remember envying the adults with the red wheeled custom skates. They were so zippy!
Great job!
