I just finished up this baby quilt made with a Moda "Whimsy" charm pack. It is about 38"x42"....I wish is was a little bigger, but that's ok! Despite the blue, this is a quilt for a baby girl. Her mom didn't want anything tooooo girly in her room. It does have a lot of floral fabrics in it, but I'm second guessing myself on if it looks too boyish. It is backed in a yellow minky fabric. I used no batting, so it is more fluid. Honest feedback is appreciated!

I made up the design in my brain, and I did a wavy line topstich...and this was my first attempt at prairie points. I actually like them a lot.

Love it!  I don't think it is too boyish at all.  Very neutral, and adorable!  Are those sticking-up triangles the prairie points?  They are great, esp for a baby blanket.

They sure are! I got the idea from another craftster poster, who got her idea from a Moda Bakeshop recipe. I liked it so much I borrowed the idea. Smiley and thank you. You know how it gets when you're to close to the project!

What an excellent job!!  Its beautiful - not boyish at all, and not overly sugary-pink-girly which I'm sure is what she didn't want.  Wink  I love it!!

Oh my gosh! Thank y'all very much for all the nice comments! It makes me a little less nervous! I hope she loves it. And speaking of love, I have kind of fallen in love with the moda "packs"...makes it super simple to get the coordinating fabrics! Smiley

Love the quilt and the little prarie points.  It's very well done.  Please don't take this the wrong way, but I want that quilt for my little guy!  I love that it could go either way and the colors are so calming.

Thanks! @NavyBlue! No, it's a total compliment and I agree with the calming colors! It is a little vintagey, and that's what drew me to it. Calm colors! Plus I really, really like the shades of blue and coral (?) the line uses.

It's just beautiful! I have to ask since Minky can be so slippery, did you have to use a walking foor when quilting it?

Good question! I'm pretty sure my walking foot is always on...that's the one it pushes it through and kind of guides it for you, right? You'd think I'd know these things. But I've had the same simple Kenmore sewing machine since I was 12...I lost the instruction manual a long time ago (not that I read it much back then, anyway)! Smiley However, I did use basting spray for the first time on this project. It was a life saver!

Ok, so I looked it up and now I'm not sure. My sewing machine just has the regular silver "clamp" that holds down the fabric to the machine, and underneath it has what I can assume are "feed dogs" to move it along. I figured that was standard, so a walking foot is technically different?

I am ashamed to call myself a quilter. lol. Sad

Really pretty! I've never seen prairie points before, I'll have to try them. I think the recipient of this quilt will use it for a long time -- many baby quilts in all pink or in pastels seem babyish pretty quickly, but this is just straight-up gorgeous.

http://www.dognamedbanjo.com/2008/07/23/bernina-440-qe-walking-foot/

I googled and found a blog that kind of explains a walking foot for you. It is totally different than the regular foot. I LOVE mine and I use it for attaching binding as well as quilting and bag making- pretty much anything but free motion quilting.

You certainly seem to be doing fine without one- this quilt looks very professional! I like the colors- I make a fair amount of quilts for baby gifts and no one wants fussy/girly quilts anymore. Neutral is so trendy. (I kinda like the girly-girly stuff, myself, but I have two boys.) Anyway, it's perfect and I know the new mom is going to love it.

Thanks so much! And thanks for the info! I believe that is what was automatically on my sewing machine, which has all of three knobs and no fancy stitches...I wish I could figure out how to take it off so I can free motion...Maybe that will be my next project! Smiley

What a wonderful quilt! Your friend is lucky to have someone like you who is willing to make such a beautiful heirloom for her baby. Does not look too boyish and is just a gorgeous quilt.
