Steampunk Christmas Ornament Swap (Sign ups 10/1-10/15, Sendouts 12/6)

I finished one ornament! Heh, I thought it'd be a simple prototype, that I'd whip up a batch of, personalizing them somewhat...Yeah. More time consuming than I thought, and not perfect-but I will insist that wonkiness is part of it's charm.

Not sending any out until they're all done. Since it looks like most of them will be different, I want to match them up to partners as best I can.

Hey, did you you know if you take a standard ball ornament and turn it upside down, it looks like a hot air balloon? The metal rim that holds the loop for an ornament hook looks like the neck of the balloon-all it needs is a basket underneath. No, I'm not making these, just passing it on! I picked up a box to look at and grabbed it upside down, and was struck by the resemblance. I may go back for that box. It also hand long oval ones that reminded me of zeppelins. Glass, too fragile to work with and ship, but I may need them.

I love me some Firefly... it always makes me sad to think that its over... I showed the airship to my mom (who can sew, unlike me!) and she decided that we need to make a bunch of them!

Also, on a slightly unrelated note, we're planning an ornament day this year, where we invite our friends over for the afternoon and make lots of crafty ornaments! Last year we made glass ball ornament snowmen and cinnamon gingerbread ornaments! Its a lot of fun, I think this year we're making bottlecap ornaments and probably cinnamon ones since they smell so good!

We have a little over 3 weeks left, I hope everyone is having fun crafting!

ooh, i haven't made cinnamon ornaments with my kids since they were tiny - thanks for reminding me of this. We must do it again this year.

Making steady progress over here!  

I think one of my modified ornaments is turning out well.  Her face looked downright frightening when I bought it, but it was just the paint.  Once she got a little eyeliner and such, she became a lot more friendly.

Two ornaments done, and a third got the base done today. I know what I'm doing for number four, five's still up in the air. It may be a variation on ornament one, still pondering. Getting there!

so i had started a few of the ornaments, i wasn't liking the bases so i scrapped them! i found some perfect "festive" type bases. so stoked!

I had my first foray into starching today, I should know by tomorrow if it worked! I also found a really cool way to "Steampunk it up" a bit more... so far I think I've spent about $5 on new materials altogether (everything else is left over in my stash) and the pattern book was $8! I didn't think I could make them so cheap, but they use a lot less yarn than I thought they would, and I found Dollar Store ornaments! I can't wait to get them done!
