Craft Challenge #56 - DIY Halloween Costumes 2010 - Due Nov 1 - Nov 7 2010

Winner announced!  Congrats, Tatterhood!

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=363700.0

11/08/10 - Vote now!  Scroll up to see the voting poll!

11/01/10 - The entry board is open!  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=455.0
Good luck! Smiley

October is here and we're ready to see all of the crafty costumes!  Time to showcase all of those amazingly creative DIY Halloween costumes of this season.  We had spooktacular entries in 2009, 2008 and 2006, and now it's your turn to contribute an amazing costume creation!

Here are a few specifics for this challenge:
  • The costume you enter must have some handmade components.
  • It must be a costume you are making for this year, and not photos of a costume from past years.
  • If you are making a costume for someone else, and not for yourself to wear, it's okay enter it, but just remember that you can only have one entry in this contest.
  • If you are making a set of costumes for multiple people that all go together via some theme, you can enter them together as one entry.

Rules:

  • Enter costumes crafted for Halloween 2010 only.  Projects created before this timeframe will not be removed from the entry board, but they will be excluded from the voting poll.
  • Post your craft during the period of Nov 1 - Nov 7 2010. No sooner.  No later.  On Nov 1 there will be a special folder created for entries.
  • Voting will happen from Nov 8 - Nov 14 2010.
  • Each participant can enter ONE project (Although your entry can have multiple components to it).

Originality:

It's probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original, has never been posted on Craftster or made by anyone else in the past.  But if your project was definitely inspired by something you've seen before, please give credit to that project.

Prizes:

At the end, I'll set up a poll right here and the first place winner will get...

(1) their project in the Featured Projects area
(2) their project in the Craftster Blog

And this prize (winner can receive prize in U.S. or non-U.S.):

Any one item from one of Craftster's online shops!

I have been looking forward to this since last October! You know, each year there are more and more entries and voting for just one gets so hard. Maybe there could be an adult and kids category this year to make voting easier?

I would love to enter this when I get all of the costume components complete...but I have posted two of the components to the toys community already as they were finished. Would that disqualify me?

I read the directions twice, but might have missed this answer (in which case, I apologize).
My entry for the Pixelate Mama contest is also my Halloween Costume---would I be able to enter it again?

We usually ask that everyone only craft during the particular challenge month, but it doesn't apply for this challenge.  We realize some start crafting their Halloween costumes months in advance, so we just limit this one to Halloween 2010 in general.

As for entering the same project twice, if someone is entered into the Mama challenge and doesn't win, they are free to re-enter into this one.  Does that seem fair?

Nope!  You're okay to enter. Smiley  Try to save the rest of your costume/full costume unveiling for your entry, though.

How much of our costume needs to be crafted? I want to put mine but a big part of it is store bought. (I can't pass up a bargain)

This is regarding Challenge 55, but it seems that the thread for that challenge has been closed Sad. Earlier today I could see the amount of votes each participant has gotten, but now it's gone. Is that a glitch on my computer or was that taken away?  Just interested- that's all. Thanks!

I've only done one other craftster challenge, but these things are ADDICTIVE!  I may do another Halloween costume, just because I have a cute idea!  Can't wait to see what challenge is in store for November!

I second a comment earlier (sorry if it was answered, I read through them all and didn't see it). Can part of it be store bought? Or does the entire thing have to be hand-made?

I can't wait to post mine! It's almost done!!! My friend that it is for is loving it too!

Here are a few specifics for this challenge:
  • The costume you enter must have some handmade components.

The entire costume does not need to be handmade, but it must have some handmade components.  Please specify/describe the handmade portions of your costume, so it's very clear what is handmade by you vs. purchased! Smiley

I've made 8 costumes so far this year (and at least 3 more in the works!).  But I am going to enter my son's costume, it took me FOREVER to make and it is awesome!!!

I've been busting my butt over my costume. Almost pulled an all-nighter last night but decided against it when midnight hit. XP I have to have mine ready by this Saturday cuz I'm having a birthday/Halloween party. Bleeeeh. I still don't know what to do with shoes. But this contest bit is fabulous inspiration to keep at it. I should prolly be working on it now if I'm gonna get it done in time... XD

Last year, the competition was stiff. I don't think I have what it takes this year, but I'll enter because Halloween is when my most impressive crafting happens.

Looking for Mccalls 6337 sewing pattern, if you have a copy you'd be willing to share/give/sell please let me know.  The bag costs $60 and I think perhaps I could make it cheaper/
