thank you all!  Grin

ps. your medusa-esque tee is also ah-mazing!
Thanks! Cheesy i bought it online from threadless.com on sale for $10 if your interested. not sure if it's still in print though.

Absolutely beautiful. Is the pattern completely yours or did you modify an existing one?
Rocked it.
i wish i'm clever enough to come up with a pattern like this, but no, it's not mine. lol. It's basically a granny square pattern. the edgings i saw from a diagram, but i'm not sure if i interpret it correctly so i improvised. the sleeves i made it up as i went along and it turned out just the way i wanted. lucky!  Grin

Is this hairpin lace? It is so delicate and pretty. I'd like to learn this.
no this is not hairpin lace. it's just a series of chain, double crochets and double crochet clusters. :p it's pretty easy. Smiley

Ok, so I followed your link to your 1st shrug, and followed the link there to the modified pattern that you found. Sadly, I can't speak/understand French. Would you be able to/mind translating the pattern into English? If it's not too much trouble for you, that is.  Smiley
i don't speak or understand French either. LOL. but the crochet symbols are standard crochet symbols. I can translate the legend for you if you want.

The pattern diagram I used was from this blog http://yagueltricot.canalblog.com/archives/2008/07/21/9996745.html#comments. The diagram file is http://storage.canalblog.com/06/50/189605/28139537.jpg.

If you need help with reading the symbols, you can refer to this website called My Picot. It's awesome. SmileySmiley

I found the pattern you were looking for on Jessica Tromp's site. Here's the link to the whole page: http://www.jessica-tromp.nl/boleroshrugpatterns.htm

Scroll a long way down the page to the section marked: "Bolero's with squares, sorted by type  ( I hope )", then keep scrolling a long way to nearly the end of that section. Your  pattern (before your great mods! :-)) is the next to last column on the right, in the next to last row in the whole section, and just underneath it in the bottom row there is a white bolero paired with a black tank top. The patterns don't have any kind of title (like "10-square bolero") but are just the photo and then the chart. Jessica's site is so amazing, all the incredible amount of information, advice, free patterns, etc., that she's gathered.

LOVE the way yours turned out! Great work.

That is gorgeous! How hard was it to make? Would it be a bit tricky for an advanced beginner in crochet?

thanks for all your comments!  Cheesy

I have about 1 yr experience in crochet and I don't think it's hard but the only thing is you have to understand crochet symbols. It's a series of chains, double crochets, clusters .. and it's a symmetrical pattern, so all 4 corners are the same. the first few squares will be tougher but once you figure out the pattern, it's not hard at all.
