We planted a few too many jalapeno pepper plants this year! I decided to try my hand at making this family favorite: hot pepper jelly!  I had both green and red (mature) peppers, so I decided to make both! I made 24 small jars of each color so that I can put them into hostess gift baskets this holiday season! The recipe I used was the one included when I bought my jars...so easy!

I already gave some away to my co-workers so I will be making more this weekend!

Labeled and ready to go!

I will be including an easy appetizer recipe:

Take one package of cream cheese and plop on plate.
Spread jelly on top of cream cheese (let some drip down onto the plate for prettiness!)
Surround with crackers.
Put out some spoons or spreaders.
Enjoy the compliments you will get and be sure to have cool drinks available!

It is really not THAT hot since the sugar takes out some of the heat, but it is hot... Cheesy

That looks like some good jelly, for fans of hot stuff! Perfect Christmas colors too. Except I'm not a hot pepper person!  My Mom's been making some jelly's too. Can't remember what they are...

My dad grows peppers every year for his super secret salsa recipe he cans, and I always ask him to save me some peppers to make jelly with, but he never does. Makes me sad, because pepper jelly + cream cheese + crackers is my favorite snack!

Yours look so pretty and clear!

The "secret" to super clear jelly seems to be to add a touch of butter in the end to get rid of the froth!  For years I used the jelly straining bags and it took forever!  The butter tip was part of the instructions by the Ball canning folks--which, btw, I highly recommend their book for anyone who wants to learn simple canning methods!

Troublet--your jellies were so awesome that I had to do it!

Thanks!

Looks great! Pepper jelly is really good with cream cheese or uses in cooking as glaze. Yum!

Thanks!  and also, thanks for reminding me that it does make a yummy glaze--I always forget to put that into suggested uses when I give them out as gifts!
