Well, my hubby is deployed and I wanted to do something special for him so I mailed him a birthday package.

Make sure you wash your mason jars and give them time to dry! I almost forgot, before I started mixing.

Ingredients... just box cake.

One box will fill 8 jars, about half-way. If you put too much it'll rise over the edge and can get messy.
Place on a baking sheet for a little security for 30-40 minutes or until you can pull a toothpick out clean.

To seal, I boiled the lids (the blue utensil is for pulling them out the hot water). One by one I pulled the jars out the oven and put the lids and rings on while still hot (pat off any water). You'll know the jars are sealing when you here a ping. If you can push the middle of the top in, try again.

I forgot packing pics, but I sent them along with Spider-Man plates and napkins, blue plastic utensils, some frosting, a card, and a birthday note (complete with instructions, bc I doubt he could get it out if he wanted to share haha). He got in less than a week and loved it Grin

*There are warnings on this bc of the possiblity of botulism. Breads can grow it bc there's no acidity, I believe, so long time storage isn't recommened, but has been done.

I wish you all the best and your husband a safe return. Smiley

First, GOD bless your family and the ther soliders families as well.  I have a few questions: What size jars did you use, where did you purchase your jars, and did you eat one of the cake's in the jar?  I plan on making some for the holidays. I have some empty Classico jars that I thought I could use.  But Classico said NOOOOOOOO!!!

I went to their website which states:

Can I reuse the Classico jar for home canning?

No. A coating is applied at the glass plant to reduce scratching and scuffing. If scratched, the jar becomes weaker at this point and can more easily break. This would increase the risk of the jar breaking when used for canning. Also, the lighter weight of our current jar could make it unsafe for home canning.

I will be going to my local grocery store to purchase the jars.  Thanks Sweetie for this post!!!
