One of my friends is pregnant and really missing being able to eat sushi, so when my boyfriend and I went over for game night, I brought this:

Like many candy sushi recipes I saw on the internet, I used Rice Crispy treats as the rice, gummy worms and Twizzlers inside, Swedish fish as, well, fish, and green fruit roll-ups as the nori. It was totally my own idea to use orange sugar (from a pack of sugars in Halloween colors) as roe though.  The only hard part really was finding the green fruit roll-ups, but I found some Kroger brand "Alien" ones that unfortunately have white speckles, but eh, close enough.

I brought chop sticks to eat them with, and they were a hit! Totally fun to make, not too difficult, and pretty tasty!

She does get the vegetarian stuff sometimes. But candy > vegetables, imo. Smiley

I made candy sushi for a 4th of July party a few years ago that had less turnout (by far) than expected, so I had tons of leftovers to take to work and man, they were gone within an hour or two. I found those little blue gummy sharks and chopped off their heads when I did it. Cheesy I'd use swedish fish if I did it again tho 'cause I prefer them. Smiley

Love the idea of colored sugar for roe!

If you find "Shrek" fruit rollups, they are some kind of berry flavor, but they are green in honor of the big green ogre.

ooo, thanks for the tip!  I'll have to look for those. Kroger didn't have them. Maybe I'll have to wait for another Shrek movie to come out and then they'll be back in stores.

These look amazing, I'm, just itching to make them for my nieces and nephews - they aren't huge fans of the real thing, but your version would go over great with them!

Aaaahh! I love it!
I am pregnant and just found out that I cannot eat sushi (well, I can eat the vegetarian ones, but really I love the ones with raw fish) and let me tell you that this is a great treat to see a friend doing this for a fellow sushi misser! I will now e-mail this photo to all of my friends as a subtle reminder.  Grin

I'm really not a big fan of sushi which is one of my boyfriends favorite foods to make. I think this is a fair way to compromise hehe Thanks for the idea!

Because like caffeine, raw fish isn't good for pregnant women to eat.

Ahhh I didnt realise that.
Got to say I dont use actual raw fish in my sushi im too scared I might mess it up and poisen someone but i do make them with prawns tomago i think its called ? (the sweet omlet stuff) smoked salmon and vegetables. In fact iv recently been experimenting with western fusion sushi I was asked to cater for my uncles Wedding with sushi but the bride doesn't like sea food so I made sausage and whole grain mustard hosumaki as well as wafferthing ham and mayo ones and egg & bacon and a few others they went down a treat my faves had to be the smoked salmon cream chease and chive ones and the sausage and whole grain mustar ones turned out shockingly good.

These are amazing! Your candy sushi is how I found this site and I'm glad I did. As a pregnant woman (at 39 weeks no less!) I really, REALLY miss sushi. My fiance has my order all written up and ready to call in after the baby is delivered.  In the mean time, I just might make these!
