Crafting to keep insanity at bay.

I made another altered puzzle for a personal swap recently which was done in a fairy/woodland theme. It was interesting following a theme this time which really helped to focus my creativity. I think it turned out really cute  Smiley As usual each piece was done individually so there are ones that are upside-down, etc.

These pieces are my favorite  Cheesy

I'd love to hear any comments or crit! Thanks for looking  Smiley

I would love to know how you do this. Do you paint the pieces a solid color and cut out scrapbook paper to go on each piece, then layer on embellishments? Do you put a layer of poly on after you finish them? How do you display them?
Thanks!

I start off with a puzzle from the dollar store - just a standard 25 piece cardboard base puzzle. I take about half and paint them random fun colors with cheap acrylic paint (the $1 bottles you can get in any craft store) and the other half I cover with fun patterned paper. Then after everything has a background I start working individually on each piece gluing on clip art, painting, drawing, writing quotes, etc. Whatever inspires me. Then after I have a design down I embellish with puffy paint, charms, glitter, etc. I don't actually put any final coat just because I like the matte finish but you could certainly experiment with that. As for mounting, I know people put them in a box frame, or just mount them on a piece of canvas by gluing them down so it's permanently fixed. Hope that helps!

And btw - I think my absolutely favourite is the fairy door. It makes me think there's something magical behind. I just love this. All of it. It's oh-so-beautiful!!!!

Yay! I'm so happy you like it. It looks a lot better in person - the camera washes out some color that is more apparent in real life.  Smiley
