Oh.  My.  Goodness.  I REALLY wish I would have seen this post when I first started teaching myself to crochet, because I've had to learn the hard way on SOOO many projects!  Like I made a scarf and many other things with just flo stitches (I had always wondered why they looked funny until I found out the proper way), and my amigurumi were always inside out, and I LOVE your way of crocheting in the base chain!  One thing that I would like help with is joining your base chain so you can start crocheting in a round.  I ALWAYS seem to mess that up!  I end up getting it more like a mobius strip no matter what I do!  But definitely an awesome and super informative post!

I made that same mistake when I learned to crochet!  It never occurred to me that something was wrong until I made my mom some Santa ornaments and his hat looked *really* weird and not at all like the grainy black-and-white picture I had.

It was so long ago that I don't remember how I finally figured out what I was doing wrong.  Since then, though, I've noticed a lot of projects with that error in them (although, the vast majority of them have looked just fine anyway... not like my Santas. lol).

I've been doing it wrong my whole life! I always thought you only went in thru the back loop of the V.  Embarrassed I always wondered why other people's projects didn't have those lines.

Well, to be fair, you've been "doing it differently" your whole life.

But!  You have a lifetime of experience with the back loop method, so now, whenever you are making something, you can make an informed choice about what method you'd like to use. ^_^
