A good friend of my sister just got back from teaching English for a year in South Korea. To celebrate we threw an Amurika party (yeeeeee-harrrrrr) hehe
So all things chicken fried and red white and blue
Bacon wrapped Jalapenos for an appetizer http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/07/bacon-wrapped_j/
(I grew the peppers, and baked them instead of grilling.. we did a mix of Hungarian wax and jalapeno peppers, and I par-boiled them before baking).
Main course: Chicken fried steak! Trust me, you need to get this stuff to make it:http://brookshires.elsstore.com/brandstores/221-hodgson-mill/categories/1558-kentucky-kernel-seasoned-flour/products/12793-kentucky-kernel-seasoned-flour
Side: Homemade mashed potatoes and Kentucky Kernal gravy hehe
Dessert: It looked like a regular layer cake.. but when you cut it... BAM
Flag cake! You basically make three cakes (red, white, and blue) and just cut the center out of the blue layer and add red and white back in... I iced it with the Pioneer Woman "That's the Best Frosting I've ever Had" but I used Almond extract instead of vanilla, and it was RAAR grr ugggh!
Drinks: Peebers... obviously
I also made her a coming home gift:
First attempt at any kind of free quilting... On the back, I tried a little applique from tshirts I found at Goodwill:
Little eagle at the bottom.. you know for splendor....
It was fun, thanks for looking!
