i've never done an FBA before because i've never sewn any tops or dresses, but i have a theory on an easier way to do them, and i want to see what everyone thinks of my idea.

patterns are drafted for a B cup, right? so if i figured out what my bust measurement would be if i were a B cup instead of a DD cup, cut that size, but then graded out at the bustline to the size i actually am, would that work?

for example, my measurements are 37-29-37, so i usually cut a size 14 and then cut the waist a little bigger. if i tried my theory, i'd subtract 3 inches from my bust to get 34" which is a size 12, so i'd cut a size 12 at the shoulder, and then a size 14 for everything else.

so would this maybe work, or am i completely crazy?

People do do stuff like that, but it wouldn't say it is the same as the FBA. You are still going from one size fitted drafted for a B cup to a second size drafted for a B cup....
