I kept forgetting to post this, but I finally am. HA!

Anyway, my husband has had this bowl for years that he loves. It's a white, large bowl with an orange and red design on the sides. The birds are kind of ambiguous, but they're chickens. Trust me. Anyway, I recently decided I wanted to take a portion of the design and embroider it. Y'know, just in case the unthinkable happens and we need a memory of the bowl itself (plus, it is a really nice design).

The bowl:

The embroidery (sorry, the wall it's on is weird and I can't make it stay straight for the life of me. It's this weird thin stuff and nails can't be put in it proper, so I have to use thumbtacks and... yeah):

As with many things, the camera doesn't do it justice. It looks a lot better in person.

Obligatory "in progress" shot:

My sketches (so I'd have reference of color and could plan out what stitches to use):

my mom still has two of the three bowls from that set... the 'large; one died a horrid death in the 70's... my sister and i are already fighting over the remaining 2.

great execution of a great pattern.

Seeking scraps! I'm in need of a variety of white on white scraps. (2.5inch square minimum) for pixel quilts. Have any? Swap for? PM me! Smiley

So there was a set?! I think he found his at a thrift store or flea market and he only ever had the one. It's cool to know there's a whole set that existed at one time. We love that bowl and someday, I might do the other parts of the pattern to join the one I've already stitched. Smiley

I always thought they were partridges. Either way, I looove old Pyrex mixing bowls. I buy them at any rummages I go to if I can haggle a good price out of people.  The pattern is called "friendship" and there were also casserole dishes printed with the design. Ebay is full of them Wink

My hubby's grandmother (my crafting role model, and who I want to be when I grow up) has that same bowl! I've always loved it. I love the design. I love things from that period. Awesome!

They may be partridges, but the husband calls them chickens, so I started to as well. Cheesy

It's the "Friendship" line of Pyrex bowls... http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=pyrex+friendship&_sacat=See-All-Categories

I'm a bit of a vintage pyrex addict, which is why I had click through on the thumbnail on the main page, LOL. I have wheat, amish, flowers, etc. and am lusting over the whole set of Gooseberry bowls. :-D

Great Work! If tragedy ever struck you could find a replacement on Etsy. They always have them! I have a smaller one I need to sell. I love the patten but only have one and no space. So it needs a happy home.
