Gimbels sewing machine help

I just picked up this Gimbels sewing machine this afternoon. It works, but needs a new belt which I'm going to pick up as soon as I can get out to the sewing store. Does anyone have any information about these machines/ possibly know how old mine is?

also need ideas for what to do about the base since whatever was covering the wood came off...
