Resident Runway--My Cute Suit (Pic Heavy)

So, at my college we had a challenge called Resident Runway in which we were given a bag of thrift store clothing and we were to fashion an outfit. I won the challenge. And here is my creation. It's a skirt suit.

My process:
Here is the assortment of clothing:


Next I died the horrifying green shirt and awful plaid shorts black(ish):

I discovered the best way to dye! I just used a trashcan with a liner and plastic ziplock bags for gloves. Cheap and easy!

Here's the back. The skirt is high-waisted with purple/black plaid ties and inserts on the side. The inserts match the jacket fabric.


Front of the top. I used the giant green men's shirt, chopped off the collar and sleeves and edged everything in black.


I made a little tank top to go under it with a cut-out back.



And of course I had to make a cute little hat. I used craft foam sheets and lots of hot glue.

If I was going to wear anything along the lines of a suit I'd want it to be a replica of that skirt suit! It's very flattering! No wonder you won, well deserved.

really cute, love the idea of dying all different clothes to the same color....it makes it more interesting because of the different patterns.
