This challenge was the kick in the tush I needed to getting round to melting crayons! While surfing the net on those how-tos, I stumbled across an artist who makes pencil sculptures and beads http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/18951.

I originally wanted to make a necklace with crayon and pencil beads. I couldn't figure out how to sculpt the crayons though. No matter because I decided to make buttons! I love buttons.

Et voila, this necklace was conceived and made.

These are the supplies:

for crayon bead making

for pencil bead making

and finally, for putting all the pieces together

Here are some close-ups:

the crayon buttons and pencil beads

the button (i did not make) for the closure

You like?

I was thinking about making a tutorial. Let me know what you think.

Like? I LOVE it!!!  Grin Making homemade buttons from crayons is such an inventive idea!

But why is the rum gone?

How to make buttons:
I made a little open-faced box out of aluminum foil (by folding sides up and folding over the corners) and put the broken crayons into it. Put it in the oven at 250 degrees for several minutes. The wax will be a pool of colors (here I think you could swirl the colors around). I let it cool down for a bit before I took a nail and poked holes into the wax, imagining where the buttons would be (the wax should not be a liquid, but not too hard that it will crumble/break). After completely cooled, I used a razor to cut the shapes out. Looking back, I wouldn't wait till it had completely cooled to do this part, it cracked into potential buttons. Maybe shortly after making the holes. If the holes did not go through completely, you can finish them after it has cooled all the way or when shaping your buttons.

I think the best part of this is that you can make whatever shape buttons you want and if you mess up, just pop it back into the oven!

We like very much, and those types of necklaces are so popular.

Its never too late to become what you might have been.
