I always thought that the elephant pacifier from Itty-bitty Nursery by Susan Anderson was so cute.
Problem is I am a beginner knitter and I'm much more comfortable with crochet.
So I wondered if it was possible to use the pattern as a guide and end up with a decent crocheted version.
This is what I made:

I used sc instead of knit stitches which resulted in it coming out the same size.
When it said to cast on 9 stitches I made 9 sc into a magic ring.
I then simply looked at each row's stitch count and made the number of increases or decreases necessary to get that count.
I spread the incr/decr evenly through that row.
Pretty straight forward.
The reason it worked was that I chose a pattern with simple shapes.
I originally tried to work through the actual instructions in each row but that didn't work out at all
since increases in knitting and crochet don't work the same.
I'm so happy and I already have another knitting pattern lined up.
