So I've had a sewing machine for years, always intimidated me a bit. Anyways, I recently got her out and started making some purses (as I'm still terrified of clothes!). So I started with a McCall's pattern (6045)! What was I thinking?! Well the first one came with a ton of issues, and took me a month, but after trying it again I whipped it up in a good two days. This thing called for 3 different types of interfacing, making my own binding tape. Needless to say I learned so much making this bag.

I next chose a Simplicity pattern (2396), it was such a breeze and fun to make.

A photo with my doggy, she has to be the center of everything!

Well thanks for looking, the goal is to get a lot better at sewing, so C&C's welcome!

Beautiful purses, all of them!
I was trying to pick a favorite and I don't think I can.  My top two are the red/white one with the leaves and the one with your puppy in the picture Smiley

Great bags there. I really like the one second from bottom, fabric wise. And I really like the dog. She looks like she's a very sweet dog  Smiley

They all look great. I think the 2nd bag is my favorite. I bought McCall's pattern 6045 too about 2 months ago. I finally decide I wanted to start making it and couldn't find my pattern so I bought another yesterday since they were on sale at Joann's.  I'd love to hear any tips for working with the pattern. I hope to work on my bag soon.

Beautiful work!

I bought the same pattern and was wondering if they wanted you to pick from one of the interfacings or use all 3. Glad to know.

Those are great!  Love your fabric choices!  I've been looking for a pattern like your second set of purses but now I don't know.  I really like the style of the first set too!  I have fabric just waiting for me to turn it into a purse...gotta get going on it!  Your purses are inspiring me to get on it a little sooner!

Thanks for all the kind words, they really mean a lot.  Cheesy

As far as working with the McCall's pattern, well the third interfacing is really hard to work with. When I went to go get it they were out of whatever it requested, but there was something similar that was fusible on both sides, so I'm not sure if that's why it was difficult?  Huh  But I didn't need temporary spray for it either, considering I have a pet birdy, I stay away from them anyway. Some people mentioned having to cut off the zipper, but I just centered it and sewed the rest up in the handles. Oh and I had the hardest time with the handles, I'm sure I did something wrong around the gusset, just not sure what that was, anyways, I had to get a jean needle to sew through it.  I thought if I tried this one again, I'd just use fleece on the gusset and the lining part of the gusset, ya think that would enough to keep it sturdy? But, when you start it, I'd like to know how it goes.  Smiley
