Has anyone used recycled glass bottles or anything that they found outside?  Like picking up trash -esque.  im just wondering if there are any unforseen problems with this

It depends on what you want to do with them. Fusing found glass is problematic. While glass from one bottle will fuse to itself, there is no guarantee that it will successfully fuse to any other found glass due to compatibility issues.

You could break the glass into bits and make a mosaic or you could use a bottle cutter to make lamps (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=352306.0) or you could etch a design onto the glass with etching creme (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=357339.0).

Whatever you choose to do, take pictures and post it!

i was going to play around with making mosaics.  I live in a college town with lots of broken beer bottles and it makes me sad to see them everywhere on the ground...i am just playing around with ideas to make use of them

When making mosaics the only limit to the kind of tesserae you use is your imagination.

You can literally use anything. Glass, tile, porcelain, plastic, clay, metal, rocks, stone, etc.

Only suggestion is to make sure you use the right adhesive to adhere that particular material to your substrate. Smiley

Mosaics are awesome! Smiley

I fuse beer bottles in my microwave kiln. I just typically use one bottle as not to mix different types or different fusing times, which can lead to it cracking or shattering. I put it in for a few minutes let it cool, look at it and then decide if it needs more time or less. It is basically trial or error.
