My sister and I hosted a Mad Hatter Tea Party. I was inspired to make a wonderland dress. I started with a plain gray sundress from Target. I used 7 different fabrics to make yards and yards of vertical ruffles! The neckline was a bit low and I really didn't want to mess with a strapless bra so i bought a plain nude bra and covered in with a light dusty pink lace from an old lace top I couldn't stand to get rid of. I covered the bra straps in lace ruffles and ruched the center front to make a Cami Bra. I get to use the Cami Bra a lot! Oh yeah, I also whipped up a HUGE bow for the party.

Cami Bra: I sewed a lace panel across a nude bra by machine on the sides, then tucked under and hand stiched the bottom.  Ruffled two strips of lace and machine sewed to straps (I adjusted the strap length before hand, they are no longer adjustable.  I don't like "bra hardware" showing and really wanted it to look like a Cami not a Bra)  I did not cover the back as it did not show and hasn't been visible on anything else I have worn it with.

I didn't want my creation to sit in the closet, so I layered it over a casual tank top to make it more wearable.  I wore it to church this way and everybody liked it (they're used to me dressing a bit "over the top")

And what a fun thing to do it for! I want to have a Mad Hatter Tea Party now Smiley. How clever.

How cute! I love how it looks. Did you just sew the ruffles on the front of the dress, or did you modify the base first?

Ruffles are sewn onto the dress, no modification before hand.

I had never thought to recon a bra!  I am totally going to do it now!  I love the strap idea, especially since I wear big ol' industrial strength bras!  LOL!  Ugly, uncomfortable straps...which I will now make CUSHY and PRETTY thanks to your inspiration.  Smiley

I love the choice of colors and the bow is so alice-y that I can't stand it's awesomeness! I might need to make something like that. You are your sister rock for the party! So jealous and the bra is ingenious... must do that to one of mine.

Cami bra=brilliance. Womankind thanks you.

You're welcome, but I can't take all the credit...there are a couple so called "Cami Bras" floating around in the retail word I just improved on the idea, BUT I have yet to see one that didn't scream "I'm a bra, not really a Cami" when it thought you wouldn't notice!  I made sure mine stayed polite.  Grin

Love the dress but I love the cami-bra even more.  I'm big chested and it is really hard to find tops that fit, this would be a great thing to have for when a super low cut top is not appropriate or I just don't want to show that much cleavage.  Plus since I can't safely go without a bra and shelf tops usually don't fit this would be a great cover-up for the bra that I have to wear.
