Really, this is the first thing I thought of when I saw this challenge. It was made as a present for a friends birthday in october (yes I'm early, but early is good) who want to look, as she put it, artistic. What's more artistic than pencils? A perfect match I thought. Plus I haven't crafted for a challenge for awhile so it was good to get back to it. Here's my entry:

A rainbow pencil fan-style necklace!
I used a packet of coloured pencil and 1 HB (the yellow one 3rd from the left) that I sawed to size and drilled at the top.
On me:

Plus a matching bracelet from the left-overs, I don't know if this counts for the challenge, does a set count as one item? But I still want to post pics:

The zig-zag was a bit serendipitus. This was my first time using a saw so it turned out wonky. I used the angle to my advantage to get the cool zig-zag effect.

The set:

Things I learned while making this set:
1. It is very easy to saw through pencils
2. Tools are not as scary as I thought
3. It is hard to drill through cylindrical objects
4. I like drilling through pencils because of the lovely puff of colour that occurs when you hit the lead.
I hope you guys like this. I'll update (in october!) when my friend gets her present!
