So, my 5 year old daughter has severe amblyopia and its exacerbated by very bad nearsightedness and astigmatism.  Her vision is something like +7, +4 and she is essentially almost blind in her left eye.  SO!  We are patching her right eye daily.  I saw a post up here about this recently but the patches were made to go over glasses, and it will be another week before her glasses are ready so I started making up some patches to get her used to it.  The first one was a bunny, but as it was felt it was too scratchy, so then i made her a kitty.  She LOVES the kitty!

We went shopping on Sunday and there was a bounce house set up outside the store, and there were a bunch of kids bouncing.  When my daughter got in the kids asked her "are you a pirate?" and she was like "YES!  I AM CAPTAIN KITTY!!"  which was pretty gratifying in thet it means she's getting used to the idea.

What do you think?

Those are so cute! Glad your daughter is adjusting well to it. My dad also has the one really bad eye...maybe I'll make him some pirate-y eyepatches too  Cheesy

really cute, and great idea. it makes the eye patch like playing dress up and probably less scary to other kids.  i like that the kitty also has one  Grin

Thanks, guys!  Yeah, my girl gave the bunny patch to her best friend, "as a present".  Said best friend now wears it in solidarity.

I think this is amazing, you helped you daughter turn what could have been a terribly embarrassing thing to a totally incredible thing. I love that kitty eye patch!

This is such a great idea. Its so great that she likes them. Medical appliances can be traumatizing, but these are super cool! Also, I think it's awesome that she is an offical pirate now!!! Capitan Kitty RULES!  Grin
