Willing to personal swap for art of my doggies!

Just wondering, because I saw a comment recently that I guess a friend or family member made that sounded pretty negative in/about a swap.  My DH still doesn't "get it" totally, but he stays pretty quiet (except for the occasional comment about the crafting mess/clutter in general - very occasional).  I think he got it more recently when I got a package in return which contained something he thought was totally cool - some portraits of our dogs.  Generally he is pretty cool about it, knowing how much I love it.  So long as the bills and the mortgage are paid, and the house and dogs aren't totally neglected, and I don't blow up, burn down, or poison us.

I only get the complaint that my kids want the stuff I make. Cheesy  Generally my family is fine with it unless I procrastinate and put them on hold so that I can finish things.  I learned my lesson and am now working on one swap at a time. Smiley  But they like that I swap because it makes me happy. Smiley

my hubby is surprised when i keep something for us/him/me because most things i make are either for gifts or swaps

i only show him things i'm making for a swap if i feel like making another one (cause he usually wants to keep what it is i'm making....and i don't like to make most things more than once....lol)

DH sometimes does question something - like "How come I don't get one?" or "Not fair!  You never make me stuff like that!"  Like when I made some Star Trek type items for one swap.  I always ask his or a friend's opinion of stuff I make too, and he seems to appreciate the efforts I put into making things.  He is contractor and does home renovations, so he does appreciate making things by hand.  If he has time, he does try to make things like picture frames, trivets, etc for gifts too.  One of my favourite gifts he ever made me was a couple of bird houses for our birch trees in front of the house.

no.  i am surrounded by folks who are either crafty or appreciate my craftiness.  the ones who dont appreciate it are fairly quiet on the whole deal.  so if they think im nuts for swapping they dont comment.  my husband admires some of the goods i receive and he knows it makes me happy.  plus, he has a fairly expensive hobby of his own...baking and cooking.  i keep him sedated with kitchen appliances and quality ingredients.  heh.

Ohhhhh - good hubby!  DH indulges my love of cooking and baking too because it keeps him well-fed.  Probably a bit too much so Cheesy My DH will also pick up supplies for me and buy me things for my hobby - he bought me my Dremel, and a sander mouse, and a few other things, and will pick up stuff at the hardware store for me when he goes and get supplies, etc.  Also, because he has a workshop full of stuff, I have great access to stains, tools, etc if I so desire.

That's also why I named my mixer.  She is a tall, shiny black beauty named Emma Cheesy

my husband complains about postage costs, or says, why do you make all this stuff for free you could be selling it! but its more fun for swaps for me.  Otherwise its a job.

my co-workers are endlessly amused at me though.  I crochet at lunch and usually, its, "what are you making for swapping today??"

My mom only complained about the fact I wasn't swapping. I never thought she'd let me give out our address so I didn't say anything. One day I was drooling over one the swap galleries my mom saw what I was looking at and it lead to this conversation.

Mom: Why don't you ever sign up for the swaps?
Me: I thought you wouldn't want me giving out our address.
Mom: If it's on here I don't care.

I think my sister's going to complain because mom won't let her give our address out to her online friends. But she's meeting these people on my yearbook and places like that.

LOL - your mom must like what she's seeing too.  Is there something she's wanting?  Edie22, I feel that way too.  I have thought about making some stuff and trying to sell it on Etsy or something, but really, when it starts to become a job, I won't be doing it purely for the fun of it anymore.

My hubby doesn't usually complain about my swapping, because the stuff I make usually isn't dude friendly... but when I did the Simpsons Nativity for the FOC wist swap, he said how come you never make anything like this for me?
I got a kick out of that! Guess what I have to make him for christmas this year?
