I apologize for not being around this summer but it's been SO hectic for me!

I just HAD to share my painting........after over 120 hours of work (the hours that I actually counted anyway) it's FINALLY done!  This is my entry to ArtPrize ( www.artprize.org ) and I was running out of time.  What a relief to finally have this DONE!

This painting is 28" x 21" on a full sheet of cold pressed Arches and was painted using MaimeriBlu watercolors.   The ONLY areas that I used friskit on were one of the nets (the net in front of the blue panel) and the ropes crossing the sky.  Everything else I did without friskit.  The photo is one taken by a close friend while in Greece.  I made quite a few changes to the image, a LOT of simplifying (if you can believe it) and a lot of "I think this would look better if I did this" kind of stuff. Only a very little amount of gouache was used in a few very small spots where my whites got away from me.

The blue of the sky seemed to scan much brighter than it really is but the other colors appear to be pretty true to the painting.  I'm not pleased with the roundness of a few of the circles in the painting (they really stick out to me).  They were drawn correctly, but in the layers of my watercolors I managed to get a few of them out of whack.

Here it is......"Aegina Ways and Means":

and a close-up of my favorite area:

Thanks guys!  I haven't been painting long (it's been 4 years now) and this is only my 3rd large watercolor (I've done less than a half-dozen small ones).  My husband says that I've been able to do this because I'm too mule-headed not to do it right.

I already see areas I'd like to "fix" so I'm going to hurry and get it matted/framed before I wind up messing with it and ruining it.  I have an image for my next painting.....I just need to get the gumption to start it.

Wow! You've got to be crazy after working so long on one piece. It was worth it! I know that you're going to pick it apart like any artist would do to their own work, but it turned out amazing! I hope you do well in the competition.

You always have the best stuff!!!  Your people have so much character - and now this!!  A most awesome landscape.  If ever the term "born artist" applied to anyone it would have to be you!!  Great job and good luck in the contest/exhibit - you deserve recognition!

I do hope to illustrate books some day.  Maybe some editorial and such too.  We'll see.
