Every boy should have a Hobbes

I haven't crafted much at all during 2010.  I don't know why, but I just haven't felt the urge to make anything in awhile.  But, my son was turning 9 and he had been asking me to make him a Hobbes for awhile, so I decided to pick up my crochet hook and see what I could do. 
I really like how he turned out.  He took me two days to complete.  I was almost afraid to stop (since lately if I stop, I don't finish).  My son is thrilled with him and that makes me happy.

LOVE him! I want to make a Hobbes for my own blond headed "Calvin" but I don't know the first thing about drafting a crochet pattern. Did you write your own? I'd love you forever if you have any tips!!

I sort of freestyled him.  I kept telling myself I should write down what I was doing, but I never did.  I just kept referencing a picture in one of our books.  I can tell you that I crocheted him in the round (that's why the body stripes don't line up).  And that the biggest round (his head) had 60 stitches in it.  I also used half-double crochet for a lot of his body. 
My younger son wants his own Hobbes now, so if I make another one, I'll try to write down what I do.

Love your Hobbes! Good job on creating him, I haven't ever tried to create my own patterns it just looks to complicated for me. I'm better on following the directions than giving them, lol

Wow, I have my own "Calvin" that would love his own Hobbes (it's my 23 year old boyfriend!).
I love that you just went with it and made it up as you went, referencing the character. That is how I do a lot of my work. I enjoy just going with my gut and seeing how it turns out. Well done!
