A few weeks ago I had made a faux fur skirt and leg warmer set. This is what I was working on when I made this tutorial if anyone is interested in sewing their own faux fur items: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=355969.0
I made the top as well. It's really simple - I traced a tank top but shorter, then added elastic on the bottom so it stays tightly on under my bust. The skirt and leg warmers all have elastic on the top in casings made of the knit I used for the top. The pockets/flaps are just some black kona cotton.

The color's not accurate in this one, but I wanted to show off my pocket flaps. It was my first time doing pockets like this. There's one on each side seam.

from the inside - they're nice and large so I can fit my passport in one when I go out, or even some flowlights (for those who don't know, they're sort of like LED light glow sticks)

The back inside and out - when I made the skirt it ended up too large, so I cut it up the back, took out a few inches, then sewed it back together. The seam isn't visible on the outside.

I've already worn the whole set out dancing and it held up super well (got lots of compliments/questions about it too). The bottoms of the legwarmers didn't even get matted up, which I figured would happen from past experience. My favorite part was people stopping me to pet me  Cheesy

Thanks for looking! Comments, critique, questions are all appreciated  Smiley

You should try making some! It's not too difficult, and they're definitely fun to wear.

I know exactly what you mean. I did the same thing for years, then I decided I'd just make my own stuff since I was never able to afford ordering anything.

Did you use a pattern for this or just figure it out for yourself?  My 11 year old daughter loves your outfit!  Her dance class is dancing to a Monsters U. song and she'd like an outfit similar to yours.  I'm looking at McCalls 6816 to give me some guidance.  I see your tutorial as well which looks very helpful.  Thank you!

I originally used an a-line skirt pattern, but since then I've made a bunch of these without any. Fur is so forgiving you don't really need one. You could try the shapes out in some scrap fabric first. The skirt is basically a rectangle for the front and a rectangle for the back, slightly smaller towards the waist, sewn to an elastic waistband. The leg warmers are two / \ shaped pieces per leg, again with a regular elastic waistband on top. I did make a Monsters U version for someone: http://as-i-sew.blogspot.com/2013/08/commission-update-naomi-from-monsters.html
