Screen filler question

I saw a tutorial online (I think it was Printcutsew, but I can't find it again) that showed pouring the screen filler onto the screen and using a squeegee as if the filler were ink -- and the result was a beautiful, filled screen with no streaks or clumps.  It looked so easy!

However, when i tried this, my screen filler was very liquid (Speedball) and it didn't distribute evenly. It streaked and most went all over my table -- squeegeed out through the screen.

I must be missing a step.  Can I thicken the screen filler?  I've been using a sponge-brush to apply the screen filler, but it's not the most elegant technique and I have a lot of touch-ups that need doing later.

OK.  I found another tutorial and I think I might have solved my problem -- I was trying to apply the screen filler from the inside of the screen and since it was touching the table, that made it all glob there.  I will try applying the screen filler from the other side and see what happens.

Problem solved!  Pays to make sure the screen is the right direction up...
