RRR challenge 1: sweaters to quirky wrap (pics & pics)

Hi all,
This was a fun project- my first experiment with making reconstructed clothing, and I learned a few things.
The wrap:



rather than a button, I opted for a kilt pin with a grey tie attached.
 

 

This was once two lovely sweaters that I found at the local Women in Need thrift store. Loved the colors, and the sleeves on the grey were beautiful.

 


Although my final product is nothing at all like it, I was inspired by the incredible work by a Canadian designer (Precocious Environmental Couture- love love love their stuff!). But it introduced new possibilities. I love the idea of reconstructing old clothes into something new, so thought I would experiment.

It has not turned out as I had originally envisioned, but for a first attempt I am pleased with the result. Of course, the sweaters were rather too small for me to begin with and have not magically grown to accommodate my curvy self, but I made an effort to compensate for that with the extra grey panel in the side- and I like the detail that it added.

So- pleased as I am, I welcome comments, crits & suggestions for improved alterations in future!

I like what you did with it, but I agree that it looks a bit small. What do you think about adding another panel of the dark material on the left side? Itsert it underneath the light material and wrap it to the inside bottom of the right panel. I really like the understated ruffled edges and the sleeves look great.

Just an idea.

Nice idea, thanks for sharing.
I would add beads or embroidery on the 'flaps'.
add more of the purple material to  both sleeves.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions- I have quite a bit of the purple left so I will see about adding that extra panel. I liked the contrast of the purple drape against the grey, but it would also be nicer if I had a little less curve mucking up my lines....

I also have a marcasite brooch that I would wear with it on the purple drape- as it wasn't part of the reconstruction I didn't add the photo, but I may play around with beads or applique. In my original plan I had intended to make quirky little purple disc flowers from the sweater to add to it, but there's not really a place that they would be featured nicely. Maybe I will reverse and make grey disc flowers on the purple instead.

I actually like it as a cropped sweater. I think it's really cute and the little purple side of the collar makes me happy.
