I made this quilt for my new friend in the Make-a-Friend swap Round 6. She loves the colors green, purple, and orange and has a thing for dragons and fairies ^_^ As soon as this idea popped into my head, I pretty much HAD to do it! I am thrilled at how it turned out Grin

The front was machine pieced and then sewn to a fleece backing right sides together. I left a hole big enough to turn the blanket and then stitched around the border about 1/4 inch to the inside. Then I hand sewed all the appliques (the dragon, houses, fire, and fairies) to create the quilting. This is a great quilt that is great for 3 of the 4 seasons and the best part- I didn't have to bind it! Binding scares me, though I do know I will have to do it one of these days... I usually make the backing bigger and fold it over to the front. All in all this took me probably 40-50 hours to complete... and for you more experienced quilters out there you may have noticed my little blunder in the squares surrounding the dragon... I cut my pieces for a 1/4 allowance and was actually sewing at a 3/8 allowance >_< I decided to just go with it and add more squares rather than ripping out all that thread! Hehe! Oh- and it's laying on my queen-sized bed to give you a size reference...
And I was extremely lucky to find the fabrics I found because they're sooo what makes the quilt- I found a green grass type print, purple with gold dots for the nighttime sky, and orange fire! I think the green is my favorite out of all of them though ^_^

Some close-ups:
Some of the fairies at the bottom. Found the images on google clip art.

Showing off my hand stitching (or trying to show it at least!)

Closer look at the dragon. He was a nightmare to place all the little pieces correctly on the quilt. His image is based off of a basic free tribal tattoo I also found on google.

Some of the stars in the starry night!
